PHIPPS & BIRD, INC. BUYS INTELITOOL

Richmond, VA-- Phipps & Bird, Inc., a private Virginia-based corporation, acquired the assets of Intelitool, Inc., of Batavia, Illinois, effective September 29. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Phipps & Bird manufactures educational physiology apparatus for high schools and junior colleges; water quality products for municipal and industrial water and wastewater treatment facilities; durable medical equipment for hospitals, clinics and doctors’ offices; dialysate warmers for the renal market; and custom parts and fabrications for original equipment manufacturers.

Intelitool in the early 1980’s pioneered the concept of interfacing human physiology experimentation apparatus with personal computers to provide data acquisition capabilities. Their products provide students with interactive demonstrations of respiratory function, muscle fatigue and cardiac activity.

"Uniting the two nationally recognized brands of educational physiology products will more than triple our sales in this market segment," explains Wes Skaperdas, Phipps & Bird’s president. "Additionally, it will expand our market to include universities and medical schools, and add depth to our research and development efforts."

Phipps & Bird was founded in 1925 as a laboratory supply and chemical distributor. The founder, Lloyd C. Bird, later became a Virginia state senator.

Intelitool, organized in 1984, will be moved to Phipps & Bird’s Richmond, Virginia facility during early October.
